日前看到一篇有關(guān)黃梅戲發(fā)展史的稿件，其中提到建國初期新組建的黃梅劇團(tuán)前往抗美援朝前線和深入廠礦進(jìn)行“慰問演出”。譯文用的是“condolence performance”, 感覺不妥。Condolence 的意思是an expression of sympathy with another's grief（對(duì)某人的憂傷表示同情）， 這樣就背離了morale boosting（鼓舞士氣）和 greetings expressing（表達(dá)問候）的原意。
         翻開漢英字典，其中對(duì)慰問的解釋有：visit (the sick/distressed); express sympathy and solicitude for; extend regards/greetings (to); convey greetings (to)。在所舉例句中，有“慰問災(zāi)區(qū)人民（express sympathy and solicitude for the people in disaster-stricken areas）”；“對(duì)遇難者家屬表示慰問(condole with the victims’ family on their misfortune)”；“請(qǐng)向他們轉(zhuǎn)達(dá)我們親切的慰問(Please convey to them our sincere solicitude)"。
        在所給出的詞組中有“慰問團(tuán)”，“慰問信”，“慰問演出”中分別是 “visiting delegation/group (sent to convey greetings and appreciation”,“letter of consolation/sympathy”和“special performance as an expression of gratitude and appreciation”。然而，對(duì)于一些中特語言詞匯，中英字典所給的基本只有解釋沒有對(duì)應(yīng)翻譯。參照國外對(duì)“感謝信（thank you letter）”的用法，建議使用“thank you performance”。 而原譯的“condolence performance”似可只能用于葬禮上“哀樂”演奏，因?yàn)?ldquo;condolence”除了慰問，還有哀悼的意思。
